Just as businesses and community members are weighing their own personal choices amidst changing state guidelines, it is a personal choice whether or not you feel safe to visit an acupuncturist. As you weigh this choice, here are a few things to keep in mind.
Thanks to ASNY’s diligence (Acupuncture Society Of New York) as of May 15, 2020, Acupuncture has been listed as Essential Health Care Operations by the New York State Governor’s Executive Order 202. Offices are allowed to open as long as all applicable guidelines for safe practice are followed and have developed business safety plan. The restrictions have to be followed carefully and will be implemented to ensure the safety of the public, support tracking, tracing, and monitoring while minimizing risk of exposure. Patients are now again able to be supported for chronic pain, stress, emotional health and addiction.

What You Can Do To Help Boost Your Immune System
- Immune boosting and herbs. Support your immune system. Let us know you are interested in going over some herbs and nutrition.
- Probiotics are an important part of your immune system. They are available in fermented foods such as yogurt, kefir, raw sauerkraut, specifically labeled pickles, miso, kombucha (careful because it can contain lots of sugar and some caffeine). Consider supplementing with a concentrated pill or powder.
- Elderberry syrup is a go to recommendation for antiviral support.
- Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Zinc are also good supplements to boost your immune system.
What You Can Do To Take Care Of Yourself
- Stress is bad for your immune system. It’s normal to have worried thoughts. Just don’t entertain them for too long. They will pass. Make some time to do something enjoyable each day. Connect with loved ones.

- Wash your hands frequently. Remember to avoid touching your face. Wash your masks on a daily base. I have seen cases of acne, conjunctivitis. Bacteria do spread rapidly.
- Get enough sleep, follow the natural cycle of day and night. Turn off the screens little earlier.
- Drink lots of water to support healthy mucous membranes as a first line of defense. Hot water and tea have been shown to inhibit viruses in our throat.
- Eat more nutrient dense whole foods, soups, and bone broth.
- Eat less inflammatory foods: sugar, industrial seed oils, processed foods, alcohol, and foods you are sensitive to (wheat, dairy, eggs, nightshades etc.)
- Support lung health by doing some even breathing, preferably outdoors in fresh air, to move circulation and clear out toxins. Breath in through your nose for a count of 5, hold for 1 count, then out through your mouth for a count of 5, hold for 1 count. Repeat. Make the counts even and not too long that you struggle. Meditation: is key right now, focus on your breathing and calm down you Central Nervous System.
- Keep moving, walking, biking and find ways to inspire yourself.
